About QuILL
Translational innovation is a core capability required for Queensland Health to deliver sustainable, high-quality and people-centred care in an increasingly complex system.
The vision is to accelerate the design, testing, trialling, and adoption of human-centred, evidence-based, and fit-for-purpose products, processes, and places that drive clinical excellence.
Living Labs are a key enabler of translational innovation. QuILL supports patient safety, workforce performance and system efficiency across Queensland’s healthcare system by applying Human Factors principles to inform the design, evaluation and selection of medical devices, software, clinical processes and environments.
QuILL brings together health services, clinicians, researchers, academic and industry partners to assess how technologies, workflows, and environments perform in real-world clinical scenarios.
Our services
QuILL helps stakeholders from across Queensland’s healthcare ecosystem to:
- design and improve medical technologies and software
- support evidence-based procurement with data-driven evaluations
- understand the causes of clinical incidents through high-fidelity simulation testing
- design and redesign clinical workflows and environments for safer, more usable systems.
We use a combination of people, tools and equipment, tasks and processes and environment to create a realistic testing space.
Our facilities
QuILL operates within high-fidelity simulation and innovation spaces that replicate real clinical environments.
Our simulation labs offer a controlled clinical environment where we conduct high-fidelity tests on medical devices and clinical processes. These spaces allow us to assess usability, functionality, and real-world application in a setting that mirrors clinical practice. By replicating healthcare scenarios, we identify potential improvements, validate performance, and support innovation in medical technology and workflow efficiency.
Who we work with
QuILL works with the healthcare workforce across all Queensland Health Hospital and Health Services and Department of Health divisions, consumers, other government agencies, universities, and MedTech and software companies that contribute to healthcare delivery in Queensland.
